4 Large 8 x 4 Foot Wooden Panels I Collaborated On for “Fire & Ice” Event 2015

Hey Friends,

The gallery of images you see is of four large 8x 4 foot wooden panels that I collaborated on with other painter friends of mine as a favour to the Alton Mill Arts Centre and their Annual “Fire & Ice” Event. We were asked to do this for the Alton Mill as representatives and members ofΒ our Youth Arts Space “Club Art Orangeville”. Β We got to include our logo on the work to help promote our mission andΒ increase press at the event.

These 4 panels were used at the backdrop for the event’s hockey rink nets. Once that part of the weekend long event was over- they used the wooden panels as decorative pieces inside and outside.

Even though we were given very little direction and guidelines to what was expected from us ; we knew we had to atleast capture the idea of “Fire & Ice” wether that was achieve in abstract, realistic or implied ways and I think they turned out absolutely wonderful.

We used a variety of methods including: acrylic paints and inks, rollers, stamps, stencils, scrapers, paint brushes, spray bottles and more! So much fun to just let loose and PLAY! I always find a get some very interesting and successful results from my art when I stop over thinking or planning and just PLAY πŸ™‚

Over 6 artists collaboratively worked on pieces 1-3 but then one specific artist took on the 4th on his own; a very well established and respected artist i must add (Paul Morin)

Let me know what you think of these Fire & Ice panels and I hope you all have wonderful and productive week πŸ™‚

Stay tuned for more of my crazy creative life

‘Ubiquitous” Newest Painting- Part of Zodiac Art Show-Taurus- 2015 Calendars Available

TAURUS-Jacklyn-Hancock

Hello my friends πŸ™‚

I haven’t posted in a while because I am too busy enjoying summer!!!! (and working) ahahahah. Hope you all have been well.

This is my newest painting I completed for a group show I was invited to participate in called the Zodiac Art Show. It featured 12 GTA artists’ interpretations of the 12 different zodiac signs; Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.

I was assigned Taurus and I was happy with their choice because I instantly thought of some intense compositions I could do featuring a bull but to honest I don’t know much about any of the signs in particular and so I would have been happy with any of them.

This painting is 30 x 40 inches, mixed media on canvas, for sale, titled “Ubiquitous”. Largest painting I have ever done! Speant around 65 hours on it I think. Crazy. What do you guys think? We also had 2015 calendars printed of all 12 paintings/ signs/ months and they are for sale for 20 bucks each or you can buy a mass quantity. Great for practical use, and as gifts πŸ™‚

Within this composition, I intentionally rendered the bull in expressionistic brushstrokes, portraying the unpredictability of the stubborn animal and I painted the woman in light of her sensuality and materialism. I believe many opposing sides of Taurus are intertwined by connections to the pleasures of Earth.

I did a bunch of visual and written research on what Taurus embodies.

Summary: “Think physical pleasures and material goods, for those born under this sign revel in delicious excess. They are also a tactile lot, enjoying a tender, even sensual, touch. Along these lines, they also favor a good meal and a fine wine. Nevertheless they also simply want to get things done, and it’s that steady, dogged persistence that winds up being viewed as stubbornness. Taurus is ruled by Venus, a lovely goddess who didn’t deny herself many things”

– Stubborn
– Lazy
– Possessive
– Materialistic
– Self-indulging
– Forceful
– Dependable
– Persistent
– Loyal
– Patient
– Generous

“The Parade” Sold To CBC’s Rick Mercer! Images from Event Attached As Well!

The ParadeWONDERFUL NEWS!!!!! “The Parade” now has a wonderful new home with Rick Mercer of CBC πŸ˜€ Check out his showΒ TheΒ Rick Mercer Report !Β

Quick Recap for you:

My last post was about how DARE Arts- a worldwide youth arts charity asked myself and 3 of my friends to spray paint 12 large 8 foot by 4 foot foam panels with the 12 inspirational words their charity represents: DARE arts, DARE, Believe, Respect, Reflect, Responsibility, Achieve, Action, Excellence, Dream, Discipline, and Lead!

We ended up installing the 12 panels throughout the entrance of the DARE arts Leadership Awards Event in Downtown Toronto- they looked fantastic and created a lot of interest and discussion as guests arrived and walked through the front hall.

ANYWAYS,Β so as myself and my friends finished setting up our panels, the award recipient of the event “Rick Mercer” walked through the entrance and I actually almost opened the front door right into him on the way out!

He was immediately intrigued by what we were doing with the graffiti panels and started to ask me about our process of creating them and just chatting with us in general about his view of graffiti arts in today’s culture and how important youth arts in a community is. It was surreal, standing there in gross paint covered clothes- covered in sweat and dust, while Rick Mercer casually chatted with me in his prestige black and white suit.

We were running late so we kindly cut the conversation short and myself and my 2 friends ran back to the car to get our fancy cocktail outfits. By the time we got back the event was slowly starting, and we wanted to check out all the fantastic silent auction items.

Marilyn Field, the wonderful president of DARE arts generously allowed each of us graffiti artists to also bring a piece of traditional art for the silent auction. I chose to display this painting you see above “The Parade” because it is currently my strongest and most valuable piece right now- I figured it could use some spotlight.

Well I put the price down on the bid sheet and walked away to grab a cocktail, five minutes later a woman, unknown to me came running up to me and stated “If you are Jacklyn Hancock- I Just saw Rick Mercer put a bid on your moose painting and mark it as final price”

Needless to say, I freaked out and ran over to talk to him, get a picture with us and the painting and also thank him of course. It was a very happy and surreal moment, and what is even better is he continued to explain to me why he felt such a connection to the piece and how excited he was to leave the event with a unique an wonderful piece of art. I couldn’t be happier- hard work paying off πŸ™‚

The actually event was amazing, DARE arts is a truly inspiring charity and the whole experience was so great I am glad I took the opportunity. It really shows me the array of possibilities that can come from networking and being open to try anything creative.

DARE Arts Leadership Awards 2014 – Commissioned Graffiti Panels

Hey Friends,

The gallery of images you see is of twelve 8×4 foot foam core panels that I was apart of spray painting in the past two weeks. DARE Arts, a worldwide youth arts charity is the organization that allowed my volunteer youth art centre to form. The president of DARE Arts asked my committee at “Club Art” to spray paint these twelve panels with graffiti style inspirational words so they could use them as decorations for their event. Myself and my 3 friends took the challenge and this is the result. Keeping in mind, 3 out of 4 of us had never spray painted before, we are all very happy with the results!

The first two images “lead” and “excellence” were done solely by myself and the third image is a panel “action” I helped worked on. The other 9 panels were done by the other 3 artists.

These twelve panels were hung in the entrance way of DARE Arts’ Leadership Awards 2014 event at “The Kool Haus” in Toronto this week and they looked fabulous and got great reviews. I am very proud of myself and my friends for taking on this commission project and getting great results and reviews.

I also recently arranged for a free liquitex paint workshop in our “Club Art” space and learned how versatile the new line of spray paints really are. I am experimenting with spray paints in my acrylic abstract paintings on canvas now- Crazy effects can be achieved !

Let me know what you think of these graffiti panels and specifically the first three images that I did myself:)

Hope everyone is having a wonderful and productive week. Stay tuned for more updates from me in the next couple days I have tons of exciting news !!

My First Solo Exhibition :)

Hancock-Jacklyn-A-Curious-Case

Hey Friends πŸ˜€

I have included some photos of my first solo art display featured at the local Barley Vine Rail Co. Restaurant and Bar. I have 14 paintings on display all together featuring 12 semi representational acrylic animal pieces and 2 acrylic abstracts!

FEATURED AT THE TOP OF THIS POST IS ONE OF THREE NEW PAINTINGS I COMPLETED IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS- the other two are a secret for now ahahaha

It is titled “A Curious Case” and originally I was looking at Canadian black bear photography for visual reference πŸ™‚ It is 20 x 24 inches and acrylic on canvas.

As you can see from the gallery of images, the building itself is wonderfully lit during the day and also dramatically light at night from the inside and outside which is great because often times Dining Rooms are not ideal lighting for artwork but I lucked out. πŸ™‚

I ran out of camera battery before I could get some high quality shots of my actual finished displays on the walls but I feel like you get a good idea of how it looks from these images. I only included 4 pieces of the actual art in this post PLUS ONE OF MY NEW ONES so as to keep some mystery as to which pieces I chose for the show and which pieces are brand new! Hehehe

In a week or two I will reveal the other 2 brand new paintings that I speant a lot of time on for this solo show! I have been tackling the largest animal paintings I have done to date and also find that I am challenging myself more then ever to play with composition which has created very interesting results.

Let me know what you think of this new featured piece “A Curious Case” and also please share with me your experiences with displaying art in Dining Rooms/ Restaurants! πŸ™‚

Hope everyone is having a beautiful and productive week. What is the weather like right now for everyone? In Ontario we were sitting at 10 degrees above for the first half of the week and now we are at minus 10 degrees below for the weekend. MAKE UP YOUR MIND MOTHER NATURE AND BRING SPRING ALREADY.

The amount of snow melting as quick as it will be this year makes me worried for the depth of flooding, but oh my god am I ever ready to see some green leaves and grass!

Stay Creative My Lovelies πŸ™‚
